Prompt Engineering Reflection:
To optimize my resume for a finance-focused audience, I used prompts that asked the AI to reframe my existing experiences and skills toward financial analysis and quantitative thinking. I specifically requested an alternate version tailored to finance and later refined the prompt by adding details about my Excel experience and personal investing. I also asked for a “top-tier one-page finance resume,” which pushed the AI to make the format more concise and aligned with industry expectations.
Compared to my original resume, the AI-generated version shifted the emphasis from general academic and volunteer experiences to analytical and finance-related skills. For example, my research was reframed as economic analysis, and my personal investing was presented as a structured portfolio with performance tracking in Excel. The wording became more results-oriented and included terminology like “asset allocation,” “risk assessment,” and “data analysis.”
Through this process, I learned that effective prompt engineering requires specificity and iteration. The more precise I was about my goals and audience, the better the output became. I also learned that tailoring content is less about changing experiences and more about how those experiences are framed to match the expectations of a particular field.
